In Vaughan, much of our market has more bedrooms than people in their homes. With spare bedrooms, customers create guest rooms, home offices, home gyms and often a walk-in closet. During the market research phase, we dug into our home visit samples and modelled the size and profile of a small bedroom in a detached home on Field Gate Drive in Maple, Ontario.
The focus of this project was to create a high-end look using IKEA’s PAX wardrobe. Three key concepts we’re used:
Maximize built-in lighting. Every shelf and every drawer must have a direct light source. With PAX, when drawers are stacked, only the top drawer gets light. Instead, I placed a shelf in between each drawer to make sure there is light in every drawer.
Give it a built-in look. A 40cm bulkhead was wrapped around the entire closet to make the wardrobe feel like it was made for the room.
Materials & color. Jewel toned paint Essex Green, rich black-brown wood, and a gray quartz waterfall countertop absorbs light and puts the focus on the interior solutions.
Originally the countertop was a walnut waterfall countertop. But the room was missing something rich, Earthy and elegant that could tie the room down. So a week after implementation, we invested in a $4200 gray quartz waterfall countertop to replace the walnut and the look of the space changed completely.
